Rebels Secure 14 Top-10 Finishes At UCLA Saturday

LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team secured 14 top-10 finishes Saturday at the 2022 Bob Larson Distance & Rafer Johnson/JJK Invitational. The meet featured teams from all over California and Utah, including host UCLA, and was held at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, California.

The women's 400 relay team of Alia Scott, Keyona Burrell, Esmeralda Tenorio, Taylor Shorter, Aja Melo-Powell and Kennedi Porter placed third with a time of 47.04. The1600 relay consisting of Elisa Rovere, Emma Wahlenmaier, Porter, Rachel Seeley and Scott placed second (3:55.55), followed by the 'B' relay made up of Lauren Felknor, Melo-Powel, Keyona Burrell and Esmeralda Tenorio who finished seventh (4:15.98). 

Natalia Ruiz Lara won the women's open 5000m run with a 17:03.55, the third fastest in program history. Wahlenmaier won the women's 800 run with a personal best of 2:07.92, followed closely by Rovere in third (2:12.52). 

Scott finished third in the women's 400m hurdles (1:02.36). Cassidy Osborne-Butler took fifth in the women's hammer throw with a personal best of 54.89m. Porter placed fifth in the women's 200m dash (24.91), Lexy Osterkamp placed ninth in the women's open 5000m run with a 20:00.71. Erin Thompson had a personal best in high jump, finishing ninth with a 1.60m.

Julia Nixon and Rachel Seely took third (28.27m) and fifth (23.91), respectively, in the women's open javelin throw. Both took 14th and 15th in the women's 100m hurdles, Seeley taking 14th (16.02) and Nixon taking 15th (16.66). Rebecca Green led the Rebels in the women's Open 1500m run, finishing ninth with a time of 5:04.02. Ellen Wise took 11th (5:10.06), Aitza Romero placed 12th (5:17.29) and Stephanie Zamora finished 13th (5:19.69). Isabella Schrader secured a personal best in a 1500m run time trial (5:11.90).

Other notable finishes for the Scarlet & Gray include LaKyla Yazzie taking 13th in the women's invite 3000m steeplechase (11:35.73), Ruiz Lara taking 17th in the women's invite 1500m run (4:41.22). Green finished 13th in 800m (2:21.38), followed by Lauren Felknor who had a personal best (2:25.26), as did Ellen Wise (PB 2:25.45), Aitza Romero (PB 2:26.46) and Isabella Schrader (2:28.30). Seely had a personal best in the long jump (5.05m) and Aaliyah Graves finished 14th in triple jump (10.28m)

NEXT TIME OUT: The Rebels will continue their 2022 outdoor campaign at the MT. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, April 15-16.
