UNLV WOMEN POST FIFTH SHUTOUT OF SEASON
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team shut out an opponent at home for the fifth time this season, 7-0 over Seattle on a cool and windy Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 8-1 overall while the Redhawks of the WAC fell to 1-8 in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
UNLV took a 1-0 lead by taking both completed doubles matches.
In singles play, the hosts did not lose even a set in picking up six straight-set victories.
The Seattle lineup included Hannah Grossman, the daughter of longtime UNLV administrator
Andy Grossman, who made her return home as a senior in front of a throng of friends and family.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Freshman
Cindy Hu teamed with
Izumi Asano for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles and then won her singles match on court four, 6-0, 6-0 to earn her team-leading 15th victory of the season, including an 8-1 mark in dual matches.
UP NEXT: UNLV closes out the weekend Sunday morning when it hosts Portland, weather pending, starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission is always free of charge.
