Rebels Return To NCAA Postseason

UNLV will play in Stanford Regional May 9-11, its first NCAA team appearance since 2018

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the first time since 2018 the UNLV women's golf team saw its name in the NCAA Regional field, which was announced live on the Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon. The Rebels will head to the Stanford Regional to play at the Stanford Golf Course, May 9-11. This will be the first year with six regional sites instead of the traditional four, a move that was approved in the fall of 2021. The adjusted format allows 12 teams at each site instead of 18 and six individual qualifiers.

UNLV will be the No. 9 seed in the region. No. 1 and host Stanford was selected as the overall top seed in the field, followed by No. 2 seed Southern California, No. 3 seed LSU and No. 4 Texas Tech to round out the top four seeds in the region. In total, the regional field contains five teams currently ranked in Golfstat's top 25, led by the Cardinal.

"I'm really proud of our team," said head coach Amy Bush-Herzer. "We had a lot of freshmen in the lineup this year so it's a big accomplishment to make it to regionals. We are really looking forward to getting to the Bay Area and competing."

The three-day 54-hole tournament will be played at the home course of Stanford's men's and women's golf programs. The top four teams and top two individuals (not on an advancing team) will advance from each regional site to the championships, which will be held for the second straight year at Grayhawk Golf Club (Raptor Course) in Scottsdale, Arizona, from May 20-25. The other five regional sites include Albuquerque, New Mexico - UNM Championship Course (host: New Mexico); Ann Arbor, Michigan – U-M Golf Course (host: Michigan); Stillwater, Oklahoma – Karsten Creek Golf Club (host: Oklahoma State); Tallahassee, Florida – Seminole Legacy Golf Club (host: Florida State); and Franklin, Tennessee - Vanderbilt Legends Club (host: Vanderbilt).

The Rebels had a strong 2021-22 regular season campaign, which included three team tournament titles and two individual medalist honors. In October, UNLV won the Dale McNamara Invitational and freshman Sydney Byran took medalist honors at the event in Tulsa. The Scarlet and Gray wrapped up the fall with another title sweep at the Clash at Boulder Creek, with senior Veronica Joels earning her first collegiate victory. UNLV's third win of the year came in the spring opener and home event, The Show, at Spanish Trail Country Club in February. During one stretch of the season, the Rebels set a program record after finishing at par or better in five straight tournaments. Freshman Kendall Todd also had an impressive stretch as she finished runner-up in back-to-back events to start the spring (The Show & Westbrook Invite) which earned her Mountain West Golfer of the Week honors for two consecutive weeks. Overall, UNLV's three tournament wins were the most since 2018.
