Box Score ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) —
Jenny Bressler struck out 10 and the Rebels set a team record for home runs as they shut out New Mexico Sunday for a series sweep.
UNLV (35-11 overall, 13-5 Mountain West) grabbed an early lead and held off New Mexico (25-22, 5–13) for a 5-0 victory.
"I think getting those two runs early was big for us. It allowed Jenny to settle in and throw a very good game.Â
Bressler (W, 22-6) allowed just three baserunners in her eighth complete-game shutout of the season. Her 22 victories rank fourth in Division I softball and gaps Mountain West pitchers by at least seven wins.
"She was really outstanding today and really attacked their batters in a not-so-friendly atmosphere with the wind blowing out. Keeping New Mexico off the bases was critical and she was trouble for them all game."
Denise Armendariz drove in two runs in the first with a full-count single to left center.Â
"Denise was really focused at the plate. She had great at-bats. It's going to be big for us to see her continue to have success like she had this weekend."
Armendariz added the final run of the game in the top of the seventh with her third home run and 13th RBI of the three-game series.
Maddie Schmidt led off the fifth inning with a triple before
Lauryn Barker blasted a no-doubter over left center. It was UNLV's 55th home run of the season, setting a team record.
"For us to get those runs late was big for Jenny just to stay settled through the final innings."
UNLV returns home this weekend for its final series in Las Vegas, hosting Colorado State starting Friday, May 6, at 6 p.m. PT.
