Seeley Has PR Performance Day Two Of MW Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Rachel Seeley and Julia Nixon finished out day two of the women's heptathlon at the 2022 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, Thursday evening at the Veteran's Memorial Stadium.

Seeley, the Madison, Alabama native, came into today after recording all personal bests during day one of the heptathlon. After suffering a hamstring injury during warmups for the long jump, she powered through to record a 5.08m (16' 8") in the long jump and threw 25.24m (82' 9") in javelin. The junior had an incredible final 200m of the 800m run, finishing with a time of 2:25.64 and securing her personal best heptathlon with 4851 points.

Nixon, a Boise, Idaho native, came into day two hot and recorded a personal best mark in the long jump with a 5.16m (16' 11.25"), threw a 27.24m (89' 4") in the javelin and ran a 2:30.74 in the 800m run, seconds shy of her open 800m. The sophomore accumulated a total of 3709 points during her first ever Mountain West Outdoor Championships.

QUOTABLE: "I'm really proud of the way these multi-eventers opened up and fought, Coach Aniis did a great job preparing these athletes for this track meet. Rachel going out there and setting her personal bests at the Championship is really all I ask of my athletes to do during the biggest track meet of the year. Really focusing on themselves and trying to bring their best under the most pressure, which is exactly what Seeley did. I'm very pleased with her day one efforts, getting a personal best in every event and coming back after a hamstring injury in warmups but powering through the long jump, fighting in the javelin and really showing grit with a great kick in the 800m, almost hitting her open personal best. I'm really proud of Julia, she came back hot for day two with a personal best in the long jump and went out and fought in both the javelin and the 800m run. This was her first ever MW Outdoor Championship and I'm really proud of her efforts and character, it really motivates the team to bring everything they can individually.
