Fioroni In Top 10 After Opening Round At Stockton Regional

Sophomore Caden Fioroni is tied for 10th after a 2-under 70 Monday

STOCKTON, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Sophomore Caden Fioroni opened play at the NCAA Stockton Regional Monday, shooting a 2-under 70 to end round one in a tie for 10th. Fioroni is competing as the No. 1 seeded individual at the three-day event, which is taking place at The Reserve at Spanos Park (Par 72 7,315 yards).

The San Diego, California, native sank six birdies total throughout the round, which included four birdies in his first five holes. He will enter Tuesday's second round two shots off the lead with four players - Stanford's Barclay Brown, Arizona State's Jose Luis Ballester, Stanford's Henry Shrimp and USC's Jackson Rivera - tied atop the leaderboard at 4-under. Five players are tied for fifth at 3-under, while Fioroni is tied with eight others at 2-under. Only one individual spot (not on any team that advances) is up for grabs to move onto the NCAA Championships at the end of May.

Stanford turned in the best team round of the day to lead by one stroke at 10-under over second-place Arizona State. Denver is in third at 6-under, followed by BYU in fourth at 4-under and LSU and Liberty tied for fifth at 1-under.

Stockton is one of six regional sites in 2022 with thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams competing at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

UP NEXT: The second round begins Tuesday morning with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. PT.
