STOCKTON, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Sophomore
Caden Fioroni completed play at the NCAA Stockton Regional Wednesday, finishing in a tie for 27th at 2-under. Fioroni, who entered the regional as the No. 1 seeded individual at The Reserve at Spanos Park (Par 72 7,315 yards), shot a second straight even round to close out his first campaign with the Rebels.
Fioroni sank 14 birdies over the three rounds, including five on Wednesday, and finished 6-under on the front nine. The San Diego, California, native, who transferred to UNLV after one season at Pepperdine, had a successful year as he finished first on the team in scoring average, birdies and eagles, was named a Mountain West All-Conference selection and played in his first NCAA regional.
After grabbing the lead on day two, Arizona State captured the regional title after an impressive 17-under in the final round to win by 10 strokes over second-place Stanford at 38-under. BYU grabbed the third spot behind the Cardinal at 27-under, followed by Oregon in fourth at 21-under. Liberty surged on the final day with a 7-under to grab the coveted fifth and final spot to advance to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the end of the month. With only one individual not on the advancing teams allowed to move on, it came down to a sudden death playoff between Washington's RJ Manke and LSU's Drew Doyle, with Manke winning the playoff to advance as an individual.
