LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — The
BJ Craig Era of UNLV men's soccer begins Thursday night as the Rebels open the regular season on the road at No. 22 Santa Clara.
The Rebels kick off against the defending West Coast Conference champions at 7:30 p.m. The match can be
streamed live on the WCC Network (wccsports.com/watch).
Craig was hired in January 2022 as the sixth head coach in UNLV men's soccer history. Craig previously coached at Oregon State, Notre Dame, Louisville and St. Francis (Pa.).
UNLV welcomed 15 newcomers, including seven from the Las Vegas metropolitan area, to join 10 returning players for the fall. The team prepared for the season with an extended training camp in California last week, playing exhibitions against Cal Poly and preseason No. 23 UCLA.
"I thought they did a fantastic job," Craig said about his team's preseason training. "We ended up drawing 0-0 to the 23rd-ranked team in the country. I think that says a lot and that should give these guys the confidence that they can play with anyone in the country right now."
The Rebels were picked to finish seventh in the Western Athletic Conference. UNLV stood 10th of 12 teams after conference play last season.
UNLV is at Loyola Marymount next week for its second game on Sept. 1 before hosting its home opener against CSUN on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 7:30 p.m.
