SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 9-under-par 271 Saturday to move into 13th place (-8) at the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Georgia State at the Mirabel Golf Club.
Auburn improved its score from 22-under to 34-under to maintain the lead with Arizona State looming in second at 32-under after 36 holes. Florida State is in third at 29-under, followed by Tennessee in fourth (-27) and San Diego State (-22) and Oregon (-22) tied for fifth.
Junior
Caden Fioroni leads the Rebels after he shot a second-round 3-under and is tied for 30th at 4-under for the tournament. Also shooting at par or better for the tournament for UNLV, junior
Ben Sawaia (-1) shot a 1-under and junior
Aaron Jarvis shot a 3-under as the duo finished the afternoon tied for 46th and 52nd, respectively.
Tennessee's Caleb Surratt (-13) took over the individual lead in the team tournament with a second-round 7-under-par 63. ASU's Michael Mjaaseth (-14) and Georgia Tech's Hiroshi Tai (-14) are tied for the top spot in the individual only-tournament at the Desert Mountain, Outlaw Course.
