BERKELEY, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Sunday rain in Northern California cut the UNLV men's tennis team's trip short as Saturday's late competition marked the end of the Battle in the Bay Qualifier at the Hellman Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of California.
Thirty players from Cal, UC Davis, UNLV, Saint Mary's, San Diego State, San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz and Stanford were part of the competition to decide qualifiers for the Battle in the Bay, which will run Sept. 23-25 at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco.
The Rebels saw both of their remaining main draw players fall in the singles quarterfinals, as did two doubles teams. In consolation play,
Aaron Bailey downed San Diego State's Bora Sengul in the super-tiebreaker and
Jackson Atherton and
Anton Ornberg won 8-6 over UC Santa Cruz's Andre Madirossian and Andrew Tjoa.
