ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's golf junior
Caden Fioroni shot an opening-day, 8-under par 136 through two rounds Friday to lead the field at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,546 yards).
Fioroni opened the event with a 5-under 67 in the first round and a 3-under 69 in the second round. He holds a one-shot lead over TCU's Aymeric Lausot and UNM's Albert Boneta tied for second place (-7) and two-shot advantage against Denver's Carson Griggs and Hawai'i's Josh Hayashida in a tie for fourth (-16).
The Rebels hold the fourth-place spot on the team leaderboard after shooting a 5-under 571 through 36 holes. San Diego State carded a 17-under to take its place atop the leaderboard, while the host Lobos are in second (-12), TCU is in third (-10) and BYU and Denver are tied for fifth (5).
Joining Fioroni in UNLV's team scoring, junior
Ben Sawaia ended the day in a tie for 11th at 3-under and is followed by freshman
Inigo Izuzquiza tied for 28th (+1), senior
George Leigh tied for 54th (+5) and sophomore
Aaron Jarvis tied for 60th (+6). Additionally, Rebel junior
Yuki Moriyama, who is competing as an individual, finds himself in a tie for 21st with an even-par 144.
