SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team shot a one-over-par 281 Friday at the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Georgia State at the Mirabel Golf Club.
Auburn heads into the second round in first place at 22-under, sitting 10 shots ahead of Oregon in second place at 12-under. Tennessee and Washington are tied for third at 11-under, while Florida State is in fifth place at 10-under to round out the top five.
Leading the way for the Rebels, senior
George Leigh and junior Caden Fiorini each ended the day tied for 36th after shooting a one-under-par 69. Following close behind the Scarlet & Gray duo, junior
Ben Sawaia tallied an even-par 70 to land in a tie for 47th.
Wake Forest's Andrew McLauclan stands atop the leaderboard of the individual-only tournament that is being played on the Desert Mountain Outlaw Course with an 8-under 64.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will resume play at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate over the weekend with the second round on Saturday, Sept. 10, and the final round on Sunday, Sept. 11.
