LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – One of the nation's top individual tournaments is back for the 20th time as players from a select group of elite college programs from across the United States, including host UNLV, will gather in Las Vegas this weekend for the Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Individual competitors will be supplied by five teams ranked in the top 20 in the season's initial ITA rankings -- No. 8 Stanford, No. 10 Pepperdine, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 16 UCLA and No. 18 Florida – along with the host Rebels.
Action begins with doubles each day at 10 a.m. PST on Friday and Saturday with the finals scheduled for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free.
Last year's event saw Pepperdine's Shiori Fukuda down Oklahoma State's Mananchaya Sawangkaew, 7-5, 6-4, for the singles title while Florida's Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee defeated Stanford's Connie Ma and Angelica Blake, 6-4, to take the doubles crown.
