Rebels Silence The Wolf Pack With 1-0 Win In Reno

Freshman Trinity Buchanan scores UNLV's eventual game-winner on 64th-minute header

RENO (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer team silenced its rival from up north with a 1-0 shutout victory over UNR in the regular season finale Thursday night at Mackay Stadium.

With their victory over the Wolf Pack (6-9-5, 4-6-1), the Rebels (7-7-6, 3-5-3) earned three points in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union for the second straight season.

In a deadlocked battle for over 63 minutes, graduate student Jules Dominguez connected on a corner kick with freshman Trinity Buchanan for the eventual game-winning goal. Dominguez delivered a precise assist from the left side for a Buchanan header just inside the box that resulted in the UNLV rookie's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Anchoring the Scarlet & Gray backline, sophomore Hanne Breur and junior Lucia Guemes shared time at goalkeeper and made a combined four saves to earn their third combined clean sheet of the year and the squad's fifth overall. The Rebel net protectors each made a pair of stops, including Guemes' diving heroics on a threatening UNR chance in the 76th minute.

QUOTABLE: "This has been an incredible year with our amazing players. Our seniors especially have been the heartbeat of our group and they will be missed beyond words. There's no better way to say goodbye than to send them off with a win over the team up north."
-UNLV Head Coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams

REBEL NOTES:
  • This was the second win by a Rebel program on UNR's home turf this year after UNLV football's 45-27 triumph on the same field nearly two weeks ago.
  • UNLV improved to 6-2-2 on the road this season, marking the first time the program notched six victories as a visitor since 2016.
  • The Rebels' victory also secured the program's third season with a .500 overall record or better over the last four years.
