SATURDAY'S PREVIEW...
Riding just its second three-game win streak in a decade (2022), UNLV (4-1/1-0) heads north for the annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon vs. UNR (0-5/0-1) on Saturday afternoon ... In addition to the famed cannon trophy, the winner of the game will capture rights to the first three points in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union, an all-encompassing competition that UNLV most recently won by a score of 31.5-16.5 ... The game will be shown in Southern Nevada via the Silver State Sports & Entertainment Network (SSSEN), which can be viewed on Cox channel 125 or over the air at 5.2 ... The Rebels, who play their two trophy games in back-to-back weeks for the second straight season, most-recently downed Hawai'i, 44-20, in the Mountain West opener on Sept. 30 at Allegiant Stadium ... The Wolf Pack fell 29-7 at then-No. 24 Fresno State that same day as both of these teams enjoyed a bye leading up to this week's in-state clash ... Barry Odom is the first UNLV head coach to win four of his first five games at the school since Tony Knap started 4-1 in 1976 when the program was on the D-II level ... A victory Saturday would make Odom just the second Rebel coach to win his first two conference games (Jeff Horton in 1994 as part of the Big West) ... The Rebels scored during their first 15 trips inside the red zone this season before being intercepted in the third quarter at UTEP, but still lead the MW and stand ninth in the nation with a success rate of 95.5% (21-of-22) ... UNLV, which has not allowed an individual 100-yard rusher this fall, has held three straight opponents to under 100 net yards rushing for the first time since 2005.

REBELS vs. WOLF PACK NOTES...
UNR still holds a 28-20 lead in the series after UNLV won last year's meeting in Las Vegas, 27-22 ... The Rebels have won three of the last five played at Mackay Stadium ... The 48 meetings, which include 34 straight years in a rivalry that permanently became an annual event in 1989, are by far the most UNLV has had with any opponent ... This marks the earliest meeting between these two since 2015 when they played on October 3 ... The Rebels' most-recent overtime victory came in Reno in 2019 when UNLV won a 33-30 thriller in the final game of head coach Tony Sanchez's stint at the school.
