Playing in its first Mountain West Championship Football Game, UNLV (9-3/6-2) hosts Boise State (7-5/6-2) Saturday afternoon ... The Rebels will be making their first-ever appearance on FOX in the same season they also first appeared on CBS (at Michigan) ... The Rebels, who are receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll, are bowl-eligible for the first time since playing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl after the 2013 season ... UNLV has reached the nine-win mark for only the sixth time in history and first time since finishing 10-1 in 1984 when Randall Cunningham lined up at QB ... UNLV is looking to win six home games for the first time since John Robinson's 2000 squad went 6-0 at Sam Boyd Stadium and dating back to last season, UNLV has won nine of its last 12 games played at Allegiant Stadium ... The Rebs have shattered program records for 40+point games for both consecutive outings (four) and in a season (six) while scoring at least 24 points in 10 straight games for the first time ever ... REBELS vs. BRONCOS NOTES...Â
The Broncos' win over UNLV in Las Vegas in 2019 gave them an 8-3 lead in the overall series ... All of UNLV's victories in the series came in Las Vegas ... The two schools played for six straight seasons in the 1970s but ended the series when UNLV, which was a football independent, moved up to D-I status in 1978 ... In a unique twist, these schools share a former head coach who left each side as the all-time winningest for both programs. Tony Knap, who died in 2011 at the age of 96, was 47-20-2 over six seasons at UNLV after leaving BSU, where he was 71-19-1 from 1968-75 (Chris Petersen passed Knap for wins in 2011).
