LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- The UNLV men's tennis team opened its home fall tournament Friday with first-day action at the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
UNLV is hosting players from three other programs – Utah State, Idaho State and Louisiana.
 
In the top flight of singles, Rebel Anton Ornberg advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Ragin' Cajun Oriol Fillat Gimenez. In the second flight a trio of Rebels moved on – Aaron Bailey, Creed Skinner and Taiyo Hirano.
 
In doubles play, the UNLV duo of Dusan Rsovac and Taiyo Hirano moved on with a 7-6 win over Louisiana's Calin Postea and Ajejo Chueca.
 
Saturday will feature semifinals in both singles and doubles. Admission is free of charge.
 
The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
