LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV's Jessie Fontes won the vote for Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Fontes picked up two victories last weekend as the Rebels went 4-1 at the UNLV Desert Classic.  The junior surrendered just one run in 10 combined innings, completing the weekend with a 0.70 ERA.

Fontes, a transfer from Arizona, started and pitched all five shutout innings of an 8-0 run-rule of Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, Feb. 17. She allowed just two hits and two walks.

The next day, Fontes pitched five innings in relief as UNLV revenged an earlier loss to Hawaii with a 5-4 victory on Saturday. She allowed only two hits and threw three strikeouts.

Fontes gave up just one extra-base hit (a double) while in the circle.

UNLV next travels to the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Rebels will face Western Michigan on Friday, Feb. 24, ahead of games against Southeast Missouri State, Chattanooga and Memphis.
