LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team opened Mountain West play with a 4-1 win over Air Force on a sunny but cool Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 9-1 overall while the Falcons fell to 4-8.
Air Force began the day by winning a hotly contested doubles point, taking two of three courts.
In singles play, the hosts won the first set on five of six courts and ended things after posting four straight-set triumphs.
Molly Helgesson breezed past Sydney Finch, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1;
Salsa Aher downed Alexis Odom, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3;
Cindy Hu got by Courtney Swift, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4; while
Aura Fang swept Arianna Van Houweling, 6-2, 6-4, on court six.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Hu went 2-0 on the day after teaming up with
Coco Zhao for a 6-1 win on court two in doubles to go with her singles victory.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV is right back on the courts Sunday vs. New Mexico starting with doubles play at 1 p.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
