LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team lost its Mountain West opener, 4-0, to Boise State on Friday evening at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels saw their overall record drop to 8-8 while the Broncos improved to 15-4 with what was their eighth straight win.
The match was much closer than the final score indicated as Boise State took two of three doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead. The host's win came on court three where
Anton Ornberg and
Jackson Atherton combined for a 6-4 victory.
In singles play, the Broncos used two straight-setters to build a 3-0 lead but all four remaining matches were extended to three sets as the Rebels looked to rally. Finally, James Van Herzeele finished off
Milos Dabic at the fourth spot to end it, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
UP NEXT: UNLV will host Utah State on Sunday starting with doubles play at 11 a.m. PT. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
