LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer program has received a signed commitment from junior college goalkeeper Lucia Guemes to join the team this fall, head coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams announced Tuesday.
A native of Ampuero, Spain, Guemes comes to Las Vegas after a decorated two-year career at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, Florida. As a sophomore last season, she held opponents to less than one goal per game (0.93 goals/game), while recording eight shutouts, 59 saves and an .808 save percentage to earn NJCAA All-American honors. Guemes was also named Region 8 Goalkeeper of the Year and tabbed First Team All-Region twice during her time with the Falcons.
Additionally, Guemes brings to the Scarlet & Gray her previous experience playing with the U-17 Spanish National Team and club teams Racing de Santander and Olimpico de Leon.
Guemes makes up part of the Rebels' seven-member 2023 signing class. The incoming group of signees also features three California natives - Kam Jalayer, Cassie Villanueva and Ryan Woodards - a Las Vegas local in Trinity Buchanan, Elizabeth Bautista from Hawaii and a Texas native in Amaya Haley.
