Caden Fioroni led UNLV men's golf on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 13th place after Monday's first round of San Jose State's Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club (Par 70, 6,514 yards).
The pair of Rebels each carded a 2-under 68 through 18 holes, combining for six birdies. Fioroni also eagled the ninth hole to add to his three birdies.
Cal's Aaron Du is the individual leader at 7-under 63. He stands one shot ahead of Michael Thorbjornsen (-6) from No. 8 Stanford and Oregon's Gregory Solhaug (-6) in second.
Similarly, the Golden Bears (-16) grabbed an early lead in the team standings with a one-shot advantage over the No. 22 Ducks (-15) in second. UNLV (-3) is in seventh.
Following their Scarlet & Gray counterparts in the team scoring, junior
Ben Sawaia (+2) and freshman
Brett Sawaia (+2) are tied for 52nd, freshman
Inigo Izuzquiza (+3) is tied for 63rd. Senior
George Leigh (+12) finished the round with the Rebels' only other eagle, which he sank on the sixth hole.
