Rebel Tennis Turns Tables On Wolf Pack

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team avenged an earlier loss to UNR by doubling up the Wolf Pack, 4-2, Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels' third straight win improved their overall record to 11-8 and 3-1 in league play while UNR dropped to 8-7 and 2-2. UNLV, which fell 4-1 to the same opponent back in February, evened things with its in-state rival in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union. The teams will wait to see if there is a third match during the Mountain West Championship later this month before any points are awarded.

On Friday, UNLV looked to set the tone in doubles and after Maxim Verboven and Milos Dabic won 6-4 at the top spot, the home team earned the key opening point when Jackson Atherton and Anton Ornberg rallied from being down 5-3 to winning in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), at the second position.

In singles, Verboven was first off the court with a 6-2, 6-2 final over N'Tcha Delmas at No. 1. Freshman Dusan Rsovac soon won a wild one on court five over Satchel Benn, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (1), and then Anton Ornberg clinched it with a 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 triumph over Matheo Coupu at No. 2.

REBEL OF THE MATCH: Verboven was dominant on the day, winning in both doubles and singles in impressive fashion at the top of the lineup card.

QUOTABLE: "It was a tough match and UNR battled hard. We were down set-point in doubles but managed to pull it out and take the momentum into singles. Anton was clutch after being down a break in the third set but he toughed it out to close it out. Go Rebels!"
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook

UP NEXT: UNLV will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday by hosting Montana in a non-conference matchup starting at noon. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
