LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's tennis sophomore Coco Zhao has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Friday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
Zhao, who improved to 5-0 in singles and 7-0 in doubles in Mountain West play, helped UNLV upset then-No. 42 San Diego State and then-No. 67 Fresno State. Against SDSU, she took down Cecile Morin (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) in singles and partnered with Cindy Hu for a 6-2 doubles win over Tamara Arnold and Andreea Velca to help the Rebels claim the doubles point. Zhao then posted the match-clinching point against the Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-2 singles victory over Mariya Vyshkina, while she and Hu made quick work of the Bulldogs' Carlotta Nonno Marzano and Meshkatolzahra Zafi with a 6-1 doubles win.
