Caden Fioroni and freshman
Brett Sawaia find themselves in contention inside the individual top-10 following Saturday's second round of the 2023 Mountain West Championship at OMNI Tucson National (Par 72, 7,194 yards).
Fioroni is one shot off the lead in a tie for second at 9-under, while Sawaia follows him just two shots back of first place at 8-under in a tie for sixth. The Rebel individual leaders each shot below par on the second day of the Mountain West event as Fioroni carded a 3-under 69 and Sawaia scored a 5-under 67. Ben Sawaia (-3) is tied for 16th, followed by senior
George Leigh (+1) and junior
Yuki Moriyama (+1) each in tie for 31st.
On the team leaderboard, the Rebels managed to lower their score with a 7-under showing to position themselves in third at 21-under through 36 holes. They will continue to chase the Aztecs in first at 32-under and UNM in second at 23-under going into the final 18 holes.
Taking the lead into the final round, No. 23 Colorado State's Christoph Bleier had a second straight 5-under 67 round to grab a one-shot lead over Fioroni, San Diego State's Shea Lague (-9) and Dylan Oyama (-9) and New Mexico's Albert Boneta (-9).
