MARICOPA, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's golf senior
Nicole Lorup sits atop the individual leaderboard after Monday's first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club (Par 72, 6,191 yards).
Lorup (-3), who eagled the 16th hole in her second-round par 72, shot a first-round 3-under 69 en route to grabbing a one-shot lead over Sacramento State's Jennifer Koga (-2) through 36 holes. They are followed in the top 5 by Long Beach State's Jasmine Leovao (-1) in third, UC Riverside's Tiffany Le (E) in fourth and two individuals in a tie for fifth (+1).
Adding another pair of Rebel under-par scores on the day, sophomore
Toa Yokoyama recorded a 1-under 71 and super senior
Veronica Joels chipped in a 2-under 70 in the first round. Those opening round tallies helped place the Scarlet & Gray duo among the top 25, as Yokoyama (+2) is tied for seventh and Joels (+6) is tied for 24th.
In the team standings, UNLV positioned itself in second place at 10-over after a strong start with a first-round 6-under. The Rebels are within seven shots of Sacramento State (+3) in first, while they are ahead of UC Riverside (+19) in third, Long Beach State (+21) in fourth and two teams tied for fifth (+22).
Also competing for the Rebels, sophomore
McKenzi Hall (+9) and freshman
Thienna Huynh (+10) are tied for 34th and 42nd, respectively. Junior
Madeleine Laux (+13) is tied for 63rd playing as an individual.
