CHANDLER, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team recorded its highest finish of the spring with a seventh-place showing after Tuesday's final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Whirlwind Golf Club - Cattail Course (Par 72, 7,334 yards).
Pacing the Rebel lineup on a windy afternoon, senior
Yuki Moriyama (+3) tied for 29th, junior
Ben Sawaia (+4) tied for 32nd and junior
Caden Fioroni (+5) tied for 38th. The top third-round performance for the Scarlet & Gray came from the clubs of Fioroni, who notched a 3-under 69 to climb 49 spots in the standings.
Leaving with the individual title, Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan shot a 13-under 203 for the tournament. LMU Riley Lewis (-12) was the runner-up within one shot of Gilligan, while Pacific's Petr Janik (-7) finished third and Kansas' William Duquette (-6) and San Diego State's Chanachon Chokprajakchat (-6) tied for fourth.
On the team side, SDSU grabbed the crown with a 7-under 857 to edge the runner-up Jayhawks (-6) by one shot. The top 5 also included Missouri (-1) in third, with host Wyoming (+2) and LBSU (+2) right behind the Tigers in a tie for fourth.
Rounding out the Scarlet & Gray individual efforts, senior
George Leigh (+7) finished tied for 52nd and freshman
Inigo Izuzquiza (+15) tied for 89th.
