LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team earned a final national ranking of No. 58 and learned it will face No. 52 Maryland in the first dual match of 2024 as the ITA held its annual Weekend Kickoff Draft on Wednesday.
This marked the first time UNLV ended the season in the national rankings since 2019 and any team that finished in the top 64 was eligible to take part in the draft, which allows teams to select their locations of competition.
The Rebels, who posted a 19-4 record after winning the Mountain West Championship and earning a spot in the NCAA Championship, will start their dual-match campaign by facing the Terrapins of the Big Ten Conference on Friday, January 26 in Palo Alto, California.
No. 5 host Stanford will face No. 61 Colorado in the site's other first round match. The two winners will play the following day for a spot in the 2024 ITA Indoor Team Championships and the two losers will play in a consolation match.
UNLV also finished third in the ITA Mountain Region behind only Utah and Denver. Individually in the region, outgoing senior
Molly Helgesson closed her collegiate career at No. 4 in singles while junior
Zita Kovacs came in at No. 14. Helgesson and her partner, junior
Salsa Aher, ranked fourth in the Mountain in doubles play.
