SATURDAY'S PREVIEW...
Marking the 56th season of Rebel football, UNLV (0-0/0-0) opens the Barry Odom era with a home game Saturday afternoon vs. FCS opponent Bryant University (0-0/0-0) in the first-ever meeting between the programs ... UNLV head coaches are 5-7 all-time in their debuts ... The last Rebel coach to win his first game at the school was future College Football Hall of Famer John Robinson, who posted a 26-3 victory at North Texas in 1999 ... Odom, who spent four seasons as head coach at Missouri, comes in with a 2-2 mark in season-openers ... UNLV is 25-30 overall in lid-lifters, including 20-10 when they happen at home ... This marks the third straight season that the Rebs kick off a campaign at home ... UNLV has won five of its last eight games at Allegiant Stadium ... The broadcast will appear on the Silver State Sports & Entertainment Network (SSSEN), which can be viewed on Cox channel 125 or over the air at 5.2 ... REBELS vs. BULLDOGS NOTES... 
Bryant is the only team that UNLV plays for the first time in 2023 and marks the first time the Rebs open against a team they have never faced before since Howard came to town to open the 2017 season ... The Rebels have never played a football game vs. a team that currently makes up the Big South Conference nor a team from the state of Rhode Island ... In fact, the only game UNLV has played vs. a team from the New England area was the 1974 NCAA D-II playoff game vs. Delaware staged in Louisiana ... This will, however, mark a rematch of sorts as Little League teams from these two communities just faced each other at the LLWS in Williamsport on August 16. The squad from Smithfield downed the team from Henderson in the opening round 3-1 (note credit: Tony Cordasco) ... UNLV is 9-4 vs. FCS opponents since the Mountain West began in 1999 ... First-year UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion has faced Bryant once before as OC for Howard. The Bulldogs downed the Bison 56-55 in a wild game played in Washington D.C. in 2018 ... Former Runnin' Rebel interim head coach Max Good (2000-01) went on to a Hall of Fame stint at Bryant, coaching the Bulldogs' men's basketball team from 2001-08 ... Former Runnin' Rebel guard Brian Keefe was a member of Good's Bryant staff as an assistant coach.
