Breur, Buchanan Earn Mountain West Weekly Awards

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Hanne Breur was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week and freshman midfielder Trinity Buchanan was tabbed Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Originally from de Bilt, Netherlands, Breur anchored the Rebels' backline as they split their pair of home contests against UC Riverside and Idaho. In the squad's 3-0 win over UCR, she recorded her second straight shutout. She finished the week with nine saves and just one goal allowed in 180 minutes.

Buchanan, an alum of Coronado High School in Henderson, helped power a Scarlet & Gray attack that netted a trio of goals against UCR. She scored her first career goal against the Highlanders to give the Rebels a two-goal cushion on the way to victory. The Scarlet & Gray newcomer tallied seven shots, including three shots on goal, while playing 129 minutes in two matches.

The Rebel duo comes away with their first weekly honors, while they are the first UNLV players to receive the recognition this season.

UP NEXT: The Rebels will hit the road for the first time this season when they head to Utah for a match at Weber State on Thursday, Aug. 31 at noon PT.
