SCOTTSDALE, Ariz, (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team wrapped up its season-opening tournament Sunday with an eighth-place finish at the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club.
Leading the Rebel scorecard at 17-under through 54 holes, senior
Caden Fioroni and junior
Trevor Lewis each finished inside the top 30 on the individual leaderboard. Fioroni, who shot a final-round even par 71, tied for 13th with a 10-under 203 and Lewis tied for 29th with a 4-under 209 in his Scarlet & Gray debut.
Adding to the list of Rebels shooting under par, senior
Yuki Moriyama tied for 37th at 3-under 210, including the team's final-round low of 3-under 68. Rounding out the lineup, sophomore
Wyatt Plattner (+1) tied for 58th and freshman
Hogan Park (+8) tied for 71st.
The frontrunners on the team and individual leaderboards in each the opening two rounds, Auburn and San Diego State's Justin Hastins held on for the respective titles. Hastings shot an 18-under 195, while Auburn combined to card a 56-under 796.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico in two weeks for the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by New Mexico from Sept. 25-26 at UNM Championship Course.
