Cassie Villanueva was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This is the third straight week a Rebel has earned the honor, while it marks Villanueva's first recognition.
Hailing from La Mirada, California, Villanueva helped power the Rebels' surging attack in their 2-0 road sweep of New Mexico and CSU Bakersfield. She finished the week with five points after scoring two goals and assisting on another during the squad's six-goal weekend.
In Thursday's 3-2 win against NM State, Villanueva netted her first career brace with both the game-winning score in the 61st minute, as well as her first goal in a Rebel kit during the first half. Additionally, she made a precise pass inside the box for the assist on the go-ahead goal at CSUB in Sunday's 3-1 comeback win over the Roadrunners.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will make the final stop of a three-game road swing to conclude their non-conference slate with a game at Cal State Fullerton at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14.
