ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 2-under 286 Tuesday to place fifth at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico at UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,546 yards).
The Rebels were led by their senior duo as
Caden Fioroni (-6) tied for 10th place and
Yuki Moriyama (-5) tied for 12th place. The former shot a 2-under 70 and the latter carded a 1-under 71 in the final round, while they went on to finish with a combined 25 birdies for the tournament.
Rounding out the Scarlet & Gray lineup, sophomore
Inigo Izuzquiza (+2) tied for 43rd, sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+3) tied for 48th in his season debut and junior
Trevor Lewis (+5) tied for 58th. Freshman
Hogan Park (+2), who competed as an individual, matched his Rebel teammate Izuzquiza in a tie for 43rd.
Leaving with the individual title, San Diego State's Tyler Kowack finished with an 11-under 205 for the two-day event to edge Texas Tech's Tyran Snyders (-10) and Calum Scott (-10) by one stroke. The host Lobos came away with the team trophy at 29-under, jumping three shots ahead of the runner-up Red Raiders (-26).
UNLV ended the competition with a team score of 11-under 853, marking its second straight tournament with a double-digit tally below par.
