WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Led by junior
Trevor Lewis' second-round 5-under 66 on Tuesday, the UNLV men's golf team moved into a tie for second at Pepperdine's Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club (Par 71, 6,800 yards).
Lewis, who drilled a hole-in-one on the 10th hole along with four birdies, joined senior
Caden Fioroni as one of two Rebels inside the individual top 10. Heading into the final day, Fioroni (62-73) sits within three shots of the lead in a tie for third at 7-under, while Lewis (71-66) is tied for eighth at 5-under.
The Scarlet & Gray, which shot a 3-under on the day, pulled within two shots of day-two leader Ohio State (-10) alongside Texas Tech and Colorado at 8-under through 36 holes.
Adding his own below-par round for UNLV, senior
Yuki Moriyama (E) broke even with a second-round 1-under 70 and is tied for 28th. Following the Rebels' three leaders are
Ben Sawaia (+8) in a tie for 64th, sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+10) in a tie for 70th and freshman
Phillip Kench (+11) tied for 71st as an individual competitor.
Atop the individual leaderboard, Colorado's Tucker Clark (-10) made a run up to first place with an 8-under 63 and the Red Raiders' Tyran Snyder's (-8) 3-under 68 pushed him into second.
