LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – For the second time this season, both UNLV safety
Jalen Catalon and kicker
Caden Chittenden were honored with weekly awards by the Mountain West, the league announced Monday.
The Rebels (6-1) earned bowl-eligibility in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history by defeating Oregon State 33-25 on Saturday night in Corvallis.
Catalon, a transfer from Texas, earned his second MW Defensive Player of the Week award after posting 10 total tackles, forcing a key fumble that was converted into a touchdown and adding a key sack of the Beaver quarterback on third down, which led to a punt in the decisive fourth quarter.
This marks a school-record fifth defensive honor already collected by the Rebels as linebacker Jackson Woodard won three during the season's first month of action.
Chittenden, a rookie from Las Vegas, won his second MW Special Teams Player of the Week nod after scoring 15 total points along with kicking off vs. the Beavers. The graduate of Faith Lutheran High School made all three of his extra points and nailed a career-high four field goals. Already sitting 17-of-19, he currently leads the nation with 2.43 field goals per game and ranks 14th in field goal percentage, sitting at 89.5.
Chittenden was also named MW Freshman of the Week for his efforts for the third time this fall. The same duo was honored together on Sept. 23.
Next up, the Rebels will host Boise State in a first-place battle on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium. Tickets are on sale now by calling (702) 739-FANS or visiting unlvtickets.com.
