In a battle of first-place teams, No. RV/RV UNLV (6-1/2-0) hosts No. 17/19 Boise State (5-1/2-0) in a Friday night showdown ... The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network ... This will be the fourth of a school-record five Friday games for the Rebels this fall ... UNLV is 27-28 all-time in Homecoming games ... The Rebels have won their first four road games in a season for the first time ever and set a school record last week with their sixth-straight road victory, 33-25, at Oregon State while the Broncos enjoyed a bye ... UNLV, which made its first-ever appearance in the Coaches Poll on Sept. 15 (reaching as high as No. 23) and then joined the AP version for the first time two weeks later, is again receiving votes in both polls this week ... A win by UNLV would be its first over a ranked opponent since downing No. 15/13 Arizona State in Tempe, 23-20, in overtime in 2008 ... The Rebels have only defeated one ranked opponent at home, downing Cal State Fullerton 26-20 in 1984 when the Titans were ranked No. 20 in the Coaches Poll ... UNLV is second in the nation in turnover margin at plus-12 as the Rebel defense has forced at least one turnover in 20 of 21 games under DC Michael Scherer ... The Rebels have scored an eye-popping 74 total points off turnovers while allowing just seven such points from opponents.Â
REBELS vs. BRONCOS NOTES...Â
The Broncos play a regular-season game at UNLV for the first time since 2019 but this will be the third straight matchup between these programs held in Las Vegas ... BSU's win over UNLV in Las Vegas in the 2023 MW Championship Game gave it a 9-3 lead in the overall series and the Rebs are looking for their first win over the Broncos since America's Bicentennial ... All of UNLV's victories in the series came in Las Vegas ... The two schools played for six straight seasons in the 1970s but ended the series when UNLV, which was a football independent, moved up to D-I status in 1978 ... In a unique twist, these schools share a former head coach who left each side as the all-time winningest for both programs. Tony Knap, who died in 2011 at the age of 96, was 47-20-2 over six seasons at UNLV after leaving BSU, where he was 71-19-1 from 1968-75 (Chris Petersen passed Knap for wins in 2011).
