BILOXI, Miss. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's golf's fall tournament slate came to a close after Monday's final round of the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational hosted by Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss at Fallen Oak Golf Course (par 72, 7,487 yards).
At the three-day event, the Rebel lineup had three of its five golfers finish inside the top 45. Senior
Caden Fioroni (+7) led the way in a tie for 41st, followed by senior
Trevor Lewis (+8) and sophomore
Zach Little (+8) in a tie for 45th.
The co-host Ole Miss Rebels claimed the tournament's team crown at 20-under 844 through 54 holes, finishing nine shots ahead of Illinois (-11) and LSU (-11) in second. The Illini's Jackson Buchanan came up with individual medalist honors with a winning score of 7-under 209.
Also representing the Scarlet & Gray, senior
Ben Sawaia (+12) tied for 63rd and junior
Wyatt Plattner (+15) finished 69th. Playing as an individual, sophomore
Dillon Dean (+19) tied for 73rd.
UP NEXT: The Scarlet & Gray will be on a hiatus from tournament competition until it opens the spring season on January 27 at the Southwestern Invitational being hosted by Pepperdine.
NOTES:
- In a 13-team Fallen Oak Collegiate field, the Rebels competed against two of the country's top-5 ranked teams and five squad's ranked in the top 25. Among those were No. 2 Ole Miss, No. 5 LSU, No. 15 Illinois, No. 22 Mississippi State and No. 23 South Carolina.
- UNLV finished the fall with two top-5 finishes and three top-10 performances. Their two top-5 outings included a win at SMU's Trinity Forest Invitational with a tournament record (-34) and a tie for fourth at New Mexico's (+2) William H. Tucker Invitational.
