LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV senior
Cindy Hu was ousted in singles but moved on to the semifinal round in doubles along with partner
Coco Zhao after Thursday's action at the inaugural Mountain West Fall Qualifier being staged at the Darling Tennis Center.
Hu, seeded fifth singles, fell to fourth-seeded Gloria Alogo Piqueras of San Diego State, 6-2, 6-2.
She and Zhao, seeded No. 1, needed extra time to get by Dilnaz Mashabayeva and Violetta Borodina of Wyoming, 8-7 (8-6 in the tiebreaker) in the quarterfinal round.
In the pilot year of this new championship format, each NCAA Division 1 AQ-eligible conference will host a tournament to designate one singles player and one doubles pair on both the men's and women's side to represent them in the ITA Conference Masters tournament, which is one of four qualifying pathways to this year's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
