Volleyball Set To Face Rams, Cowgirls This Weekend

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The Rebels hit the road this weekend as the final stretch of the regular season approaches, the UNLV volleyball team heading east to Colorado State and Wyoming for another week of Mountain West play.
 
The Scarlet & Gray will first battle against the Rams on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. PT, traveling out to Fort Collins, Colo., for the match. The team will soon after hook north to Laramie, Wyo., matching up with the Cowgirls on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. PT. UNLV fell in both matches last weekend on a split schedule of home and away, losing to both Boise State and San Diego State on a final score of 3-1.
 
The Rebels have continued to stand as one of the premiere blocking teams in the conference during their Mountain West schedule, tied for the top spot in the Mountain West as a team in blocks with 2.53 per set. Rheanna Deen-Jackson has led the charge in the statistical category, the freshman middle blocker tied for the top spot in the conference at 1.42 blocks per set as an individual. Jordyn Freeman joins her freshman teammate with over a block per set during the season, sitting at 1.25. Caleigh King leads the back-row squad with a top-10 mark of her own in the conference, averaging 3.03 digs per set to lead the team.
 
Arien Fafard has led the offense with a handful of top-10 marks of her own, rounding out the service aces per set list at 0.34 and sitting eighth overall at 5.5 set assists per set. The Rebels' setter's dishes have helped hitters like Freeman excel, the graduate student holding the fourth-highest hitting percentage in the conference during the entire 2024 season at .402. 
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS:
 
Colorado State (12-8, 8-2 MW)
The Rams currently hold the top spot of the Mountain West not only in record but several statistical categories, producing the top offense in the conference. Naeemah Weathers is one of the key pieces of CSU's league-leading .306 hitting percentage, scoring on her attacks at a .440 rate. Behind her at .371 stands Karina Leber, both led by full-time setter Emery Herman. Herman is the facilitator of the Rams' offense, dishing a league-high 10.9 set assists per set so far in the Mountain-West season. 
 
Wyoming (13-7, 5-5):
The Cowgirls will battle the Rebels in a premiere defensive matchup, Wyoming tied with UNLV in the top spot of the conference in blocks per set during the Mountain-West season (2.53). Sarah Holdcomb just edges Deen-Jackson in the top spot individually in blocks (1.42), holding a dominant gap for the top spot in holding 21 solo blocks. That previously mentioned amount of solo blocks, ranking in the top-25 nationally in the statistical category. Paige Lauterwasser has emerged as one of the top attackers on the roster, leading the Cowgirls with 3.82 kills per set during the Mountain West schedule and ranking sixth in the league.
