DALLAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team shot a season-low 11-under 277 Sunday to jump into a tie for third following the first round of the Trinity Forest Invitational being hosted by SMU at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 72, 7,617 yards).
Leading the Rebel lineup that had all four scorers end the day with sub-par rounds, senior
Caden Fioroni and sophomore
Zach Little - who made his Scarlet & Gray debut - each shot a 4-under 68. The duo stands in a tie for 10th going into the second round.
Contributing to the Scarlet & Gray tally, sophomore
Wyatt Plattner added a 2-under 70 and senior
Trevor Lewis chimed in with a 1-under 71 to place them in ties for 23rd and 35th, respectively. Rounding out the team's lineup is junior
Brett Sawaia (+2) in a tie for 58th, while sophomore
Dillon Dean is tied for 41st at even-par 70 competing as an individual.
In a close opening 18 holes, the Rebels are within four shots of day-one leader USC at 15-under 273 and one of Loyola Marymount (-12) in second. They are joined in a tie for third by Louisiana (-11) and on the top-5 leaderboard by the host Mustangs (-9) in fifth.
The individual lead is held by the Trojans' Jack Buchanan at 8-under 64 through 18 holes.
