Volleyball Heads Into Final Weekend Of Regular Season

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team head back to Cox Pavilion for the final weekend of the regular season, closing out with a pair of Mountain West matches.
 
The Rebels (13-14, 6-10 MW) play host to Air Force and New Mexico, battling both opponents in rematches from earlier in the season. UNLV will celebrate their annual Military Appreciation Night with their match against the Falcons on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. PT before hosting the Lobos for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 23 (1 p.m. PT). 
 
The Scarlet & Gray split their final weekend on the road, falling to Utah State on a tight 3-2 score but beating UNR on a 3-1 mark. The Rebels takedown of their rival marked a season sweep against the Wolf Pack, picking up another win in the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union. Senior Chloe Thomas and freshman Basia Latos led the Rebel offense with 12 kills each in the match, the defense being fueled by career-highs with Dakota Quinlan notching nine total blocks and three solos.
 
UNLV stands as one of the top blocking teams in the Mountain West, ranking second in the league with 2.54 blocks per set. Three spots on the roster during conference hold a difference in blocks per set by .01, Thomas leading the way at 0.85 with Quinlan and Jada Ingram right behind her at 0.84. Arien Fafad has emerged in the league's top-10 rankings as an individual in service aces, producing 0.33 per set to tie for the ninth slot in the league.
 
Latos has continued to climb in her kills per set average during the conference season, now reaching a 2.93 mark after collecting 28 kills in nine sets last weekend. The Rebels hold two other student-athletes on the roster with 2.4 kills per set or higher; Thomas owning a 2.58 rate and Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos producing 2.44 per set. Fafard and Olivia Mikkelsen have shared the role as the team's setter, the former leading with 5.31 set assists per set and the latter with a 4.08 rate.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS:
 
Air Force (3-24, 2-14 MW)
The Falcons have found some highlights through the season, Grace Fiaseu emerging as one of the premier attackers in the lineup. The freshman holds the seventh-highest hitting percentage in the conference, earning kills on .346-percent of her attacks in the match. Jordan Suan has been on the forefront on Air Force's defense, collecting 3.55 digs per set during the conference season to ranked sixth in the league.
 
New Mexico (13-13, 6-10)
The Lobos reign as one of the top defensive teams in the league, pacing the conference's top spot in both blocks per set (2.76) and digs per set (15.46). Liepa Lavickyte holds a league-high 83 block assists in 62 sets for the Mountain West's top blockers, averaging 1.44 total blocks per set. Falanika Danielson owns the runner-up spot on the conference ranks with 4.12 digs per set, right behind the top spot by .04. New Mexico's offense holds several weapons in their arsenal, Madeline Miller tossing the most set assists in the lineup at 7.55 per set, her top target being Lauryn Payne and her 3.45 kills per set.
