SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team saw three individuals climb into the top third of competitors in Tuesday's second round of San Jose State's Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club (Par 70, 6,486 yards).
Senior
Yuki Moriyama (+3) made the Rebels' largest jump on the day, ascending 23 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 27th after carding a second-round 1-under 69. Alongside Moriyama, senior
Caden Fioroni (+3) moved four spots up the standings into a tie for 27th after a 1-over-71 and junior
Trevor Lewis (+4) improved 17 spots into a tie for 33rd with his even-par 70.
Reversing roles atop the team standings, Stanford (+9) shot a second-round 5-over to overtake Arizona (+11) by two shots on a rough 13-over outing by the Wildcats. In spite of the rise by its leading trio, the Scarlet & Gray (+33) remained in 12th place.
A switch also occurred for the individual lead as the Wildcats' Filip Jakubcik shot a second-round 2-under 68 to drop his score to 4-under for the tournament. He holds a one-shot lead over Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri in second.
Rounding out the Rebel lineup are sophomore
Wyatt Plattner (+11) in a tie for 70th, senior
Ben Sawaia (+12) in a tie for 73rd and sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+16) in 89th.
