LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – After falling short in their game just a day prior, the UNLV baseball team (20-18, 8-12 MW) aimed to claim revenge on the UNR Wolf Pack (16-19, 10-9) on Saturday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Rebels would do just that, striking hot offensively with double-digit runs to take down their rival on a final score of 11-7 in this phase of the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union.
Austin Kryszczuk led the charge for the Scarlet & Gray, totaling four RBI in four at bats with one extra walk. The graduate student kicked off the scoring with a two-run triple through the right-side of the field, scoring in both
JP Hefft and
Rylan Charles who both previously reached by free trips to first base. He'd later strike twice in the bottom of the second with another RBI hit, shooting a double to left-center field to bring home
Paul Myro IV from second and Charles from first base.
Charles' day proved just as strong outside his three runs, picking up three RBI to his credit that started with earning one in the aforementioned single to bring home
Bailey Seeger. He'd be the one to ice the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, blasting a two-run homer over the right-field fence to push the Rebels' lead to four runs.
Two more UNLV batters would be credited an RBI in Saturday's contest,
Brendan O'Sullivan subbing into the game at second base and immediately hitting a triple out to center field in his first at bat. That hit would drive in Myro IV to extend the Rebel lead to three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Santino Panaro would also be credited with an RBI of his own in the bottom of the fifth inning, his single to right field driving in Kryszczuk from second base to score the team's eighth run of the ballgame.
The pitching staff threw three different arms in the contest that each contributed three innings,
Jordan Hanson picking up his third start of the season and striking out four different batters.
Sam Simon came in as relief to only allow one hit in the contest, picking up three strikeouts of his own and earning the decision before
Matthew Maloney closed the game. Maloney's efforts tallied his second save on the year, fanning a pair of batters that included the final out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
