CRESWELL, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's golf senior
Yuki Moriyama shot a first-round 5-under 67 to pull into a tie for the lead after Friday's opening round of the Mountain West Championship at Emerald Valley Golf Club (Par 72, 7,210 yards).
Moriyama, who contributed a bogey-free back nine and six birdies for the round, ended the day as one of two Rebels on the individual top-5 leaderboard. His Scarlet & Gray counterpart
Caden Fioroni sits one shot off the lead in a tie for third at 4-under 68 as the duo combined for 12 of their squad's 18 birdies.
Owning the team day-one lead, San Diego State finished the first 18 holes at 6-under for a two-shot lead over Colorado State (-4) in second. Only two shots separate the third through sixth place spots, with Fresno State and UNR tied for third at 3-under, New Mexico in fourth at 2-under and UNLV in a tie for sixth with San Jose State at 1-under.
Also competing in the conference event for the Scarlet & Gray are senior
Ben Sawaia (+4) and sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+4) in a tie for 43rd and junior
Trevor Lewis (+5) in a tie for 46th.
