LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team will honor its 10 graduating seniors this weekend when the San Diego State Aztecs come to Las Vegas for the final regular-season series beginning on Thursday, May 2. Both the Rebels and Aztecs have clinched a spot in the Mountain West Softball Championships.

SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE: San Diego State heads into the weekend with a 27-16 overall record and 14-5 in the conference, which sits atop the league standings. Mac Barbara leads SDSU in batting average (.351), home runs (nine), RBI (37), hits (40), walks (30), slugging percentage (.658) and on-base percentage (.483). Dee Dee Hernandez leads the pitching staff for the Aztecs with a 9-3 record, two saves and 1.81 ERA in 62 innings, striking out 33 with 10 walks.

SERIES PROMOTIONS: This weekend, the Rebels will salute and honor their 10 seniors. Fans in attendance will receive a 2024 UNLV softball schedule poster all weekend. Additionally, the concession stand will offer $2 hot dogs on Friday and $6 for a hot dog, chips and water bottle or canned soda on Saturday.

On Thursday, the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a UNLV cross-body bag..

On Saturday, fans have the opportunity to win Lee Brice tickets for his concert at the Virgin Hotel Las Vegas. Fans in attendance can enter their name with a QR code that will be shown on the video board in game. The winner will be announced during the game as well.

TICKETS: Single-game tickets are $6 in advance and at the game $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, faculty and staff. Kids under 12, Nevada High School students with their high school ID, UNLV students are free at all home contests.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD: The Rebels defeated San Jose State 2-1 in their final MW road series last weekend. UNLV took game one 8-5, dropped game two 7-2 and earned a 5-2 win in the rubber match.

In game one, UNLV defeated the Spartans 8-5 in the series opener to clinch a spot in the MW Softball Championships. The Rebels came out ready to go and took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning over the Spartans. Although San Jose State cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the first, the Scarlet & Gray scored in the last three innings to come out with the victory.
Ellie Zellien collected her ninth win of the season (fourth in the MW) and
Alanna Thiede came in and earned her first save of the season.
Ariana Martinez reached base on every at-bat going 2-for-2 including two doubles, two walks, a RBI and scored two runs.

The Rebels dropped game two 7-2 against San Jose State. The Rebels were ahead 1-0 after the second inning over the Spartans, but San Jose State tied it 1-all in the bottom half of the fourth. UNLV grabbed the lead back in the top of the fifth inning 2-1, but SJSU scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to control the game and never let up.
Skyler Shaw had a career day at the plate tying her career-high in hits going 3-for-3.

In the rubber match, UNLV earned a 5-2 win to collect the series. The Rebels jumped out front in the first inning 1-0 over the Spartans. UNLV then added a run in the top of the third and fourth to hold a 3-0 lead over San Jose State, but the Spartans started to crawl back. The Scarlet & Gray then added a run in the top of the fifth and in the top of the seventh to hold onto the victory.
Ellie Zellien did not allow a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning and collected her 10th win over the season, which is her fifth in league play.
Alanna Thiede came in and earned her second save of the season.
