Caden Fioroni and
Yuki Moriyama placed inside the top 20 as the NCAA Stanford Regional wrapped up Wednesday at Stanford Golf Course (Par 70, 6,727 yards).
Fioroni topped off his week of par-or-better scoring in all three rounds with an even-par 70 to finish 17th at 3-under 207 for the tournament. Moriyama, who coupled a pair of 2-over-par rounds with his second-round 6-under 64, tied for 18th at 2-under 208.
The team title went to Illinois after posting a final-round 9-under on the way to a final score of 36-under 804. The other five teams to advance to the NCAA Championship were Florida State (-28) in second, Texas A&M (-19) in third, as well as SMU (-10) and the host Cardinal (-10) in fifth.
Guiding his team's victory, the Illini's Max Herendeen's 13-under through 54 holes gave him individual medalist honors. Earning the automatic qualifying spot to the national championship as the regional's low individual, Minnesota's Ben Warian finished with an 11-under 199.
As a team, the Rebels (+7) posted a ninth-place finish after entering the week as the site's No. 10 seed. Concluding play for the Scarlet & Gray lineup in their regional debuts were junior
Trevor Lewis (+2) in a tie for 36th, sophomore
Brett Sawaia (+12) in 64th and freshman
Phillip Kench (+17) in 67th.
