LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football junior quarterback Anthony Colandrea has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Tuesday.
Colandrea has earned the recognition for the first time this season and it's the fourth time this season for the football team.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Colandrea completed 20-of-32 passes for 361 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 62 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Air Force.
Late in the first quarter, Colandrea opened the day's scoring with a three-yard touchdown run. In the third quarter, he connected with DaeDae Reynolds for an 86-yard touchdown that was the third-longest pass play in school history and the longest ever against a conference opponent. With 36 seconds remaining, he ran in the game-winning score from 19 yards out.
Additionally, Colandrea is the first UNLV quarterback to win three Old Trapper Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week awards in a career. He also was named a Manning Award Star of the Week and a Frisco Bowl Player of the Week.
