Snitari Named Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

The sophomore earned an automatic spot in the NCAA Singles Championship

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's tennis sophomore Ilia Snitari has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Monday.

Snitari has earned the recognition for the first time this season, while it's also the men's tennis team's first of the year.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

A native of Kishinev, Moldova, Snitari ranked 83rd nationally and remained perfect this fall by rolling through the ITA Mountain Regional, which earned him an automatic spot in the NCAA Singles Championship field next month.

Last Monday, his 6-4, 6-4 win over 13th-seeded Carson Baker of Boise State moved him into the final, which was not played because it would have been against his UNLV teammate, making them co-champions.

He only lost one set during the week and is 10-0 this fall and 18-0 overall at UNLV.
