LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's soccer senior Michelle Madrid has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
Madrid has earned the recognition for the first time this season, while it's also the women's soccer team's first of the year.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
A Las Vegas native out of Bishop Gorman High School, Madrid scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 19th minute to help the Rebels earn a 2-1 road win over UNR. Her goal made her the team leader with four goals and 10 points on the season, while also marking career highs for a single season in both.
The win gave UNLV its second straight road win up north and third victory in the last four Silver State Series matches against the Wolf Pack.
