LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football redshirt freshman Kayden McGee has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
A native of Muskogee, Oklahoma, McGee blocked one punt that was taken for a touchdown, returned a teammate's blocked punt for a touchdown and downed two punts in a road win against Wyoming.
Halfway through the first quarter, McGee picked up a punt blocked by teammate Jaden Bradley and raced into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown. Just before halftime, McGee and Bradley swapped circumstances as McGee blocked a Cowboy punt attempt that Bradley picked up and scored on from 13 yards out.
McGee was also named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week as well as the Freshman of the Week.
Additionally, UNLV won a game in Laramie for the first time since 2003 and is 5-0 for the first time since 1974.
